Liquid-phase specialty media are modified forms of activated carbon or other natural minerals used to filter contaminated water. Sources for these media include alumina, clay, and anthracite. Specialty media work in much the same way as activated carbon, attracting the contaminants in the water through adsorption. By adsorbing the contaminants, the level of contamination in the water stream is dramatically reduced.
Applications of specialty media range from the removal of oil and grease, to the treatment of iron, manganese and mercury.
The specific media chosen is dependent on various factors, the most important of which are the contaminant of concern and the level of contamination.
MLE Equipment uses liquid-phase specialty media from various sources. Please see the provided specification sheets and manuals for more detailed information on liquid-phase specialty media.
