Reciprocating Compressors

Reciprocating Compressors - Environmental EquipmentReciprocating compressors are used in remediation systems to supply compressed air to pneumatic well pumps.  As positive displacement compressors, each cycle of a reciprocating compressor produces the same volume of air, regardless of the pressure.  Air is drawn through an air filter and distributed to a cylinder where it is compressed by a piston reciprocating on the crankshaft; the crankshaft is rotated by an electric motor.  The intake of ambient air and exhaust of compressed air is controlled by valves in the cylinder.  The compressed air is usually stored in an integral steel receiver tank.

Reciprocating compressors have a 50% duty cycle, meaning they are well-suited for intermittent applications, such as supplying air to pneumatic well pumps.

When selecting a reciprocating compressor, the required flow rate and pressure are the most important factors, and the electrical classification of the motor should also be considered.

MLE Equipment uses reciprocating compressors manufactured by Champion.  Please see the provided specification sheets and manuals for more detailed information on reciprocating compressors.
