Maple Leaf Business Partner Tom Lawn will compete in Ironman Triathlon World Championship
MADISON, WI- (May 2003) On September 15, 2002 the Inaugural Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon was held in Madison, Wisconsin. The field of 1 800 professional and amateur athletes competed for the limited number of spots.

Tom Lawn of TCL Process Technologies, a Maple Leaf representative firm, has qualified for the Ironman Triathlon World Championship to be held on October 18, 2003 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. More than 50 000 triathletes from over 50 countries annually attempt to qualify for the world's most famous endurance event.

The Ironman consists of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run; all of which must be completed within the 17-hour timeframe. Training for the race typically requires 18 to 24 hours per week for six to eight months to develop the stamina and endurance needed to complete the 140.6-mile event.

The Ironman Triathlon began in 1978 with only 15 competitors. Its explosive growth required race organizers to implement qualifying procedures in 1983. The race is now limited to 1 500 professional and amateur athletes due to the championship nature of the event. To qualify for the World Championship the athlete must finish in the top 4% of his or her age group.

Tom's time was 11 hours and 27 minutes. He finished 3rd in his classification and received a qualifying spot for the 2003 World Championships.
